Brian is also the founder and chairman of MicroLoan Foundation Australia, a charity providing small business loans to impoverished women in Malawi.
Remembering my time in Africa, and the wonderful people I worked with in my businesses there, I decided to look for ways to help them to become successful in business too. So when I came across the MicroLoan Foundation in the UK, I approached them to see if I could set up a ‘franchise’ here in Australia, and so MicroLoan Foundation Australia was born.
MicroLoan Foundation is a very different kind of charity, offering hope, not handouts. By providing small loans (Average A$50) and ongoing business training and support, MicroLoan empowers women in rural Malawi to set up self-sustainable businesses. The profits from these businesses enable the women to work themselves and their families out of poverty.
To date, MicroLoan Foundation Australia has provided over $750,000 in loans to impoverished women in Malawi to allow them to start their own business and improve life for themselves and those who depend on them.
